Based on true events, Hold Me Down depicts a day in the life of a 19-year-old single mother who works as a stripper at an illegal nightclub to support her child in the South Bronx. It is filmed in the locations where the events depicted actually occurred; in the Mott Haven Housing Projects and in an actual brothel, and features a cast of non-actors / women survivors of sexual exploitation and domestic violence.

Produced by More Media (moremedia.tv), The Collectif, and Bob Film Sweden with support from IFP, the Swedish Film Institute and Sveriges Television.

Every Mother Counts, a maternal health care non-profit dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere, presents CON MADRE. The short documentary film highlights the importance of midwifery care in one of the most dangerous countries in Central America to give birth, Guatemala. The film follows Erika and Dora María, students training to be the first university-level midwives (parteras) in the country, as they return to their hometowns in the rural, Indigenous communities of Guatemala. Once there, Erika and Dora María continue their education under the mentorship of traditional midwives, comadronas. Erika and Dora María work with the comadronas to continue their culture’s traditional practices of birth and natural medicine, while also incorporating the new skills and training from school and health centers. Both women share their own personal stories of empowerment and dedication to helping women and families in their communities. Erika, who is pregnant, also plans a home birth under the guidance of her comadrona, Azucena, a powerful leader in her community, and with the help of her fellow midwives at school, including Dora María. ULIE:
“Ama is a silent film. It tells a story everyone can interpret in their own way, based on their own experience. There is no imposition, only suggestions.
I wanted to share my biggest pain in this life with this film. For this is not too crude, I covered it with grace. To make it not too heavy, I plunged it into the water.
I dedicate this film to all the women of the world.”
Julie

JULIE:
“Ama est un film sans parole qui raconte une histoire que chacun peut interpréter à sa manière, selon son propre vécu, tout est suggéré, rien n’est imposé.
J’ai voulu mettre dans ce film ma plus grande douleur en ce monde. Pour qu’elle ne soit pas trop crue je l’ai enrobée de grâce. Pour qu’elle ne soit pas trop lourde je l’ai plongée dans l’eau.
Je dédie ce film à toutes les femmes du monde.”
Julie
